An unsettled and mild start, the more settled and cooler from mis-week
The unsettled weather continues at the start of this week. There will be rain and strong winds with a risk of gales. Higher pressure building from the middle of next week and after a mild start conditions may turn cooler. A rsk of some mist and fog later in the week too.

Tuesday 12/12/23 Low pressure is expected to be moving into Ireland on Tuesday. This brings a wet day for many areas with some heavy rain passing north and east during the day. Heavy showers follow through Ireland and the west and south of the country, some thunderstorms in here as well. The heaviest of the rain in Scotland and northeast England in the afternoon with central areas then brighter. Highs at 5C in northern Scotland, 12C in southern England.
Wednesday 13/12/23 Low pressure south of the country on Wednesday as a ridge of high pressure builds into Scotland. Showers affecting eastern and southern areas of the country. Drier and brighter in Scotland and Ireland, a few showers in the east. Highs at 5C in northern Scotland, 9C in southern England.
Thursday 14/12/23 The ridge of high pressure builds through the country on Thursday. There may be some morning mist and fog patches, these slow to clear inland areas. A weak front brings some patchy rain to Scotland. Mostly dry elsewhere with some bright spells where mist and fog lifts. Highs at 5 to 8C.
Friday 15/12/23 High pressure may build on Friday. The day ay well be foggy. This lifting slowly to leave some broken cloud. The best of any sunshine in northern England and Scotland. Highs at 4 to 8C.
Saturday 16/12/23 High pressure remains on Saturday. This brings another mostly dry day. Bright spells, the best in the south. More cloud in northern areas and breezy too. Some rain may affect northwest Scotland. Tops at 7 to 10C.
Sunday 17/12/23 Higher pressure remains in southern areas on Sunday. The day should be fair with bright spels although some morning mist and fog patches in England and Wales. Coud and some rain in northwest Scotland. Tops at 7 to 10C.
